The Portable Planetarium is an exciting part of the Museum's science outreach that provides an inspirational way of presenting astronomy in an immersive environment.
The Museum strives to create an educational and entertaining experience that serves to invigorate an interest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). This is accomplished by displaying full dome content, including the of the wonders of the night sky, nebulae, galaxies, the solar system, and beyond. It is the Museum's style to keep presentations live and interactive throughout the show.
Keeping Florida Standards in mind, the Museum's Portable Planetarium shows can be adapted for an audience of any ages. MOAS can explore concepts such as:
Inflatable Dome: Go-Dome™ 20ft diameter, 12.5ft height
Projection: Newtonian2™ mirror dome, HD 1080p
Capacity: 35 children maximum
Software: DomeView Pro, Nightshade, World Wide Telescope
In order to set up and utilize the Portable Planetarium to its fullest extent, the Museum requires an indoor space of at least 30 x 30 ft. with a ceiling height that reaches 13 ft. tall. Reliable wall outlets will be needed for the equipment that will be running inside and outside of the dome.
